Gáldar

Gáldar is a municipality in the north of Gran Canaria, located west of the capital Las Palmas. Of particular interest are the nice beach of Boca Barranco and Sardina, where there are several restaurants and a small fishing port. The harbor is popular with divers to prepare for their dives. In the past, sugar cane was the main crop grown in the Gáldar area, but today the region is home to banana, potato, tomato, onion and flower crops, goat, sheep and cattle farming and small-scale food processing. For centuries, the cheese made from sheep’s, goat’s or cow’s milk from Gáldar and its neighboring municipalities of Santa María de Guía and Moya has been renowned for its quality. Here mainly local people live and work.
